Relaxed country chic venue

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Dealing with guests coming from abroad is not easy! So when Sylvie asked me for some help to find the right accommodation for her guests, I thought I would have got myself into trouble…but I was wrong! After searching around for a nice place to stay I came across this little newly refurbished Italian villa in the Venice countryside.

It has a laidback, easy style with a twist of elegance in the attention to details thanks to Gabriella, the owner who has decorated the house with a mix of rustic and modern taste.
Not only would it be a lovely accommodation for your guest, but it could be the ideal location to plan an intimate reception.
I love the spacious patio which is immersed in the romantic Italian countryside.

Last but not least I want to mention the rich breakfast Sylvie’s guests were spoiled with! They will never forget it! Thank you Gabriella!

Delicious chocolate favours by Peratoner

Monday, April 26th, 2010

In every town there is a caffè which has become an institution over the years – “the caffè”. This is the case of Peratoner, in Pordenone, North East of Italy. A small and elegant Italian caffè where you can still smell – a part from the delicious smell of chocolate and pastries – the scent of the past years when bistros were fournished in a vintage style with leather seats and small round marble tables and, for the most elegant ones like Peratoner, with an internal chocolate fountain. Every time I pass by this little shop I can’t resist and if I’m not having one of their lovely high-calories cakes at least I need to stop and have a look at their windows…a sort of work of art where they display every sort of chocolate creation.
I thought these elegant bordeaux colour boxes could be perfect as favours at a wedding. You can fill them with the pieces of chocolate you wish! I chose for you the following assortment: (more…)

Why did I choose funny invitations?

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Wedding invitations are just as important as your venue, your photographer or your flowers. What your invitations are like give your guests’ first idea about the style of the wedding they will take part in: fun, formal or sophisticated.

When choosing my invitations, I tried to have in mind the following basic elements: colour, design and last but not least cost. And most important: I wanted them to reflect myself! Gianluca and I wanted to announce our wedding in a funny way, just like we are! Since I’m pretty well known for being a creative person as well, I just made the decision to make my own invitations! (more…)

I forgot to tell mum about you!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The first time I went to my boyfriend’s house, which at that time was my mother-in-law’s house, I was kind of worried and impatient, as you can imagine! You never know how it is like and you feel both feared and curious at the same time.
Anyway, the first meeting with my parents-in-law was quite funny!

I still remember that day we had planned for a while: I had just come back from a show in the UK and after landing in Venice airport, I took a car and drove for an hour to reach this little village at the foot of the Dolomites. (more…)

Bring colour on your table with Macarons

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Every year weddings seasons see new interesting colours coming on show. It might be pink, turquoise, black or chocolate. Brides may want as well to combine colours among them into their wedding invitations or onto their wedding cakes as well!

I suggest that you add colour on your table in a nice and visual impact way with Macarons. This is a typical French meringue-based pastry: it is made with a mixture of egg whites, almond flour, and both granulated and confectionery sugar and it is well-known its smooth, domed top and ruffled circumference.

When I was in Bordeaux (France)I discovered this exclusive shop M Le Macaron, which can customize Macaron colours for you! I love this idea! This would certainly give a personal touch to your wedding day! (more…)

My first wedding in Italy: short or long dress?

Friday, April 16th, 2010

What shall I wear for the wedding? Long or short dress? What colour?
I’m not quite sure about you, but when I receive an invitation for a wedding it is always the same dilema! Expecially if I am going to a wedding abroad where culture and traditions are different from the Italian ones!
For this reason I would like to give my piece of advice to the girls who will be attending an Italian wedding.  I am not an expert and these tips are not absolute – it is just something I know from my own experience, from what my mum and granny told me since I was a little girl.

1. LONG DRESSES OR SHORT DRESS. I would say Italian weddings do not generally require long dresses. Italian female guests are usually quite elegant – you know Italians are famous for being fashion addicted! – but a long dress is not needed unless you want to wear it. (more…)

Our freelance photographer, a true success!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

While looking for a photographer for our wedding, we experienced that not necessarily the most well-known ones are the best! Freelance photographers, having great passion for photography can come up with creative and valuable shots!

This was our guess and we took the challenge to try it on our wedding day!

We got married in Pordenone and  our idea of picture set was clear: we wanted to take advantage of the medieval architecture of the city and play with it! (more…)

An eco wedding dress decorated with flowers

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Fresh roses, fern leaves and a few pearls sewed on a bodice and a long white skirt in paper as soft and elegant as tafta’. This is not only a work of art but also an original organic wedding dress I came across a few weeks ago.

The creative artist who makes these natural creations is Chiara. She is a fabric designer who lives in Treviso, not far from Venice.
She creates mostly jackets, scarves, dresses using fabrics from different areas of the world, and she has now launched a new idea of organic wedding dresses I find fab!

Chiara told me she attended botanical studies when she was younger and she loves creating flower decorated items. That’s where the idea of this dress, which is still unique, comes from. (more…)

A former cloister for our civil wedding ceremony

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

What better than a former monastery in the city centre for your civil wedding ceremony? Italian cities offer brides and grooms a wide range of wonderful locations such as villas, castles, gardens and even formerly religious places turned into civil places, which give an irresistible charm to the whole ceremony.

In our case we had the chance to get married in the cloister of a former monastery, the Ex-Convento di San Francesco, in Pordenone. This is a well-known place in the city where exhibitions, conferences and concerts take place throughout the year; this is one of the reasons why this location is not that often used as a wedding venue. We insisted with the city register office and succeeded in having our wedding celebrated there.

The beauty of this venue, which was nicely refurbished a few years ago, created a magical atmosphere, quite distant to the common idea of civil wedding celebrated in anonymous town halls. I have to admit we were quite lucky as well since the weather was nice: sunny and warm considering it was April!

Flower ice cubes for creative cocktails

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

I’ve just come back to the UK after a long and relaxing week end in Italy. A mini holiday which I spent with my family and friends and which was full of nice (wedding) ideas.
Here is the first one, or at least one of those I found really creative and romantic: flower ice cubes! (more…)
