Inspiration for a chic Halloween bride…

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Morning everyone!

Remember last week’s article published by Stefania on corsets?! Well, Halloween week-end is in front of us, and I feel like delighting our gothic and dark brides with some wonderful pictures that combine chic and fetish dark style, gothic style corsets, Halloween pumpkins inspiration and location beauty!

I came across with Alessandro Mari‘s wonderful pictures taken in central Italy region and I simply fell in love with them…

Who said that Halloween is scary?! A location that seems to be the scene of an old Gothic movie, a fantastic model, a great dress stylist and here we are with the perfect chic Halloween bride!

I love the bride sexy poses, her glamorous look and the dress obviously!!! The dark red corset that perfectly matches the black Goth style gowns is simply perfect… Simple accessories such as a black pearls necklace and lace gloves contribute to emphasize her gothic style as well!

That vintage touch of a birdcage veil…

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Hello girls!

I want to talk about an addiction I’ve got…that is to say my obsession for birdcage veils!
I could spend hours and hours in a hat shop trying all sorts of birdcages available and I won’t never get tired…I just love them and I would wear them to go to sleep as well…it’s crazy, isn’t it!!!
So I thought to write something about them with a few useful links for all those of you who are already great fan of them, but also for those who will find them a great accessory they’ve never thought of…

This is just a a picture from Miriam & Bruce’s art deco, 1920s-30s inspired wedding which took place at the Brickhouse in London last year (photos by Eye Imagine). I love her birdcage veil hat made of Russian/French veil fabric whic has been enriched with little pearls…She bought it from Jane Taylor Millinery, a London based top quality sartorialist who can make bespoke birdcage veil available in many colours and shapes…by the way, they’ve just realeased their 2010 winter collection!

Another top range product is the one offered by Flo & Percy‘s vintage accessories (based in Billericay, Essex). They’ve got wonderful vintage jewellery (starting from at least £100) which could be use to decorate your birdcage veil…

I also came across this UK company specialized in birdcage veils - Lily Bella Bridal which has got a wide and unexpensive range of items with feathers, flowers or crystal decorations (starting price £12).

I’ve to say I’ve always had problems with bands and hair accessories…how do I put them on??? Do I look nice or stupid? So I found this nice video on YouTube, showing how to wear a birdcage veil which I think is quite simple and useful…

Then…I’ve also got something for those of you who would like to make a diy birdcage veil – this is a simple and easy tutorial form OnceWed which tells you how to make your own birdcage veil.

You can buy good Russian and French veil fabric at Harringhtons or at Millinerwarehouse (UK based company, order by phone). I definitely need to try it!!! Maybe in a dark colour for the next Italian wedding I will be invited to!

An Italian purple themed wedding

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Hi loves,

I was walking down Pordenone main street this week and stopped by a flower shop window which was decorated with various violet and purple flowers: orchids, hyacinth, lilac…I loved it! So bright and elegant! And I have to say that dark purple or light pink coordinated with the leaves green colour is fab! I was thinking then to find out some inspiration for you today ladies!

This is how I came across with Chiara and Samir wedding pictures. They got married in Genova last year.

The whole wedding theme was purple colour, starting with Chiara’s accessories; a simple violet colour flower in her hair, her bright purple wedding pumps or her different purple roses great bouquet! …

The pictures shot by the photographer are so natural! Chiara’s smile is so relaxed and natural! I like so much as well the spontaneity of the street scenes with Chiara and Samir who did not hesitate to play with the surrounding architecture of Genova old town!

Chiara and Samir treated their guests as well with violet theme favours and confetti! I like the plastic boxes closed with green, violet and white ribbons! A touch of modernity and elegance!

Wet and lucky?

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Good morning girls,

A few days ago I read an article saying around 39 thousand couples in the US chose the 10/10/2010 date to get married! How many are going to celebrate their wedding on 20/10/2010 this week then?…How amazing is the power of numbers and to some extent traditions on people choices, isn’t it!

It’s well known that Italian wedding traditions and habits are strong! And I would like to share some with you today! This would start with the say: Sposa Bagnata, Sposa Fortunata, Rain on the day you get married brings good luck!

Courtesy of Ferdinando Califano

And on top of that saying, did you know that:
> An Italian bride should always wear something old as a sign of respect of tradition, something new to project herself toward the future, and something blue coloured as a sign of purity
> The bride must pass through the new house door in her husband arms
> The future husband must not forget anything at his mother’s place; according to the tradition he would not be able to turn back, and this would be a sign of lack of willingness to get married
> Future bride and groom must not see at each other on the day before the wedding
> The future husband must not see the bride dress before the wedding
> Wedding rings shall not fall in the Church! This would be a sign of bad luck, unless gathered afterwards by the vicar!
> …

Might you believe in them or not, it’s always funny to read through these habits! Do you believe in these ancient sayings? Are there some local sayings in your area you would believe in?

Italian vintage hand-made corsets

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Hello girls!

Are you ready for something really cool? Today I want to show you a few vintage corsets I came across a while ago and which I think could be a perfect choice for an original retrò wedding dress!
Indeed it took me a while to write this post, simply because I couldn’t make a decision on the corsets I wanted to feature in our blog…they are all so pretty!

They are made by Luca Soffiatti at Mezzobusto, a small artisan fashion shop in Milan, all made to size. Luca’s idea was to re-create  vintage chic corset which is made according to the old corset tradition, using Italian trims, duquese silks, damask clothes and chantilly laces.

Gaelle + Calum: red hearts and roses

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Morning everyone!

You can’t imagine how happy I was last Friday, not only because it was the beginning of the week-end but also because I found a lovely surprise in our inbox: an e-mail from Gaelle with a full report on her great wedding in Italy!

Gaelle is a French bride who got married to a Scottish guy in Italy a few weeks ago (what a great combination!). We got in contact with her thanks to this blog, while she was planning her English-French wedding in Aquileia (a lovely tiny ancient town not far from Venice). You probably remember her cool diy white and read heart themed stationery, well now you can see a few selected pics from her wedding day.

The white and red heart theme is everywhere: in her hand-made wedding dress, in her daughter dress (she is sooo nice!), in tables and favours…I love the combination of the menu, placehorders and roses…

In the end it was a three days-long party as on Friday we got civilly married at the Municipio in Pordenone.
Then on Saturday, we had a big party in a lovely vineyard in Aquileia, with a very personal ceremony run by my husband’s dad (who’s a vicar) and my brother (who works at the City hall in Clermont-Ferrand and can marry people). (more…)

Marzia + Maurizio: roses & lights (Part II)

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Hi dear friends,
Remember the article we published last Monday about Marzia and Maurizio’s wedding?! I’ve kept for today the second part of it, less fun and romantic than the previous post, but the one I was most inspired by in regards with great and nice ideas put together by our fantastic Italian brides!

Marzia’s idea about her day was simple: roses and lights! Roses and lights all around: candles in the church, candles in white glasses at the restaurant, flying lanterns in the night!

Marzia’s bouquet was fantastic: one single giant red rose which perfectly matched the romantic style of her dress!

Red roses petals were spread on the restaurant tables as well among the candles! And please notice: roses petals were actually lying on mirrors, to emphasize the light effect as well!

How nice are the flying lanterns pictures taken by Gianluca around midnight! We friends were afraid for the woods in the surroundings to go into fire, but the moment was really magic!

Marzia + Maurizio: romance and fun! (Part I)

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Happy Monday everyone,

This week I feel like sharing with you a couple of articles about our friends Marzia and Maurizio’s wedding which was celebrated a few weeks ago in North East of Italy.

Everything started on the hottest Saturday afternoon of the year in the tiny medieval San Gregorio church, hidden among the hills, in the Pordenone countryside.
Marzia’s dress was so nice! A traditional and simple white dress which perfectly matched her black hair and her tanned skin! Here a few pics taken by my husband Gianluca…

The path to San Gregorio church is sooo nice and romantic, Marzia’s brother walked her to the church along a medieval alley surrounded by the castle ancient walls!
Once the religious ceremony was over, our friends wanted to play some jokes to the couple, which is something tipical in the Italian tradition.
The reception was held in an ancient villa close to the church, so Maurizio had simply to take Marzia in a little chariot up to the restaurant! OMG! But friends were there to help them!

A lot of emotions and drinking throughout the dinner as well! But keep tuned, as I’ll tell you more into details into the next article about nice ideas Marzia put together for her day!
