A passionate love for hats

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Hi girls,

Yes, it’s Sunday…but I’ve got these nice pics that I can’t wait until tomorrow…have a look!
A little introduction though. I met with Corinna a few months ago thanks to her wedding reportage on a couple who got married in Genova and who chose a purple colour theme for their wedding! And I’m so il love with her photos that I’d like to show you another wedding she took pictures of…what I really like about it is the bride’s original handmade hat…

Sara and Umberto got married in Liguria region last year. She had her dress made by a dressmaker as well as her hat decorated with a birdcage veil.
She sent a short note to tell us how in love she is with hats and how she managed to draw her own wedding hat with a really vintage (and modern at the same time) style!

Look at Corinna’s pictures! Sara really looks like an old-times bride and the result is wonderful!

“I love hats – I’ve got plenty of them in every sort of shape and colour. So I was pretty sure I wanted to wear one on my wedding day! I made a drawing of my hat after being inspired by some pictures, then I added the birdcage veil which I think is so charming! I brought my drawing to the dressmaker who manage to create this wonderful work of art! It’s all 100% handmade” :)

A symbolic cerimony before going to bed

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

It’s quite late.
I’m at home ready to go to bed so that it will sooner be Fridayyy! Yess!
I’ve got a busy week-end ahead  - 2 hours drive to reach Hull to see MrB and and also for a nice dinner with friends tomorrow night. Then Saturday I will meet my lovely couple in order to check a few details for their wedding in Tuscany. Most of the suppliers have been choosen, so it will be nice start talking about flowers and decorations in front of a cup of tea!

Before that, I want to leave you with the last post of the week which is about symbolic weddings.

A few days ago we received an enquiry from Saffron, a bride-to-be fron the UK who is going to get married in Italy this year. She was planning to have a symbolic cerimony and she asked us to recommend a registrar/celebrant for that day.

So we explained her symbolic weddings are no legally binding and there is no need for an official celebrant/registrar. The beauty of a symbolic wedding is that you don’t have to be in a licensed location (that’s the case of civil wedding) and you also have the freedom to personalize the ceremony as much as you want.

Your ceremony could be performed by one of your family member or friends participating to the wedding (easier way!), or you can find someone else to do that.

As simple as that. And now shoes off (my tango ones) and bed time!
See you next week!

Carnival spirit

Mask in Venice
Hi girls,

Did you know the Venice carnival has just started?!
That’s a magic period of the year to be there…plenty of things to do such as theatre, concerts and music in many squares.
Just bring with you a nice mask and let the carnival spirit drive you into a wonderland made of misterious and extravagant Venetian masquerades such as halequins, ladies with colourfull costumes decorated with enbroidery or feathers and other fantacy creatures. The nicest thing is to get lost in one of the little calles and meet someone who invites you to join a party or a concert…

It would be perfect to arrange a wedding during this period of the year, the only two thing I can think of are the cost of accomodations and flights (it’s high season) and the amount of people around – if you are looking for an intimate wedding it might not be the right time of the year (unless you stay during the week, avoiding the crowd of tourist which is tipical during the Carnival week ends).

A part from this, it’s a great time! And don’t forget to bring a mask…

Tatjana+Ralph: Art and Love in Verona

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Ladies and gentlemen,

Hold on to your hats. We are about to embark to a fairytale journey…this is the story of a pricess and her green magic mirror, her prince who felt in love with her beauty and of an enchanting villa in Verona – a wonderland made of strangely shaped chairs, brightly coloured sofas and creative scultures.

All mixed with the Jewish wedding tradition. Love this wedding!

A Burlesque Inspiration for your Wedding Dresses

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Hello girls,

I’ve been a bit naughty this week since I’ve not been posting anything, not even time for my daily dose of posts and comments from blogs I really like! Too much work going on!!!

Anyway, I’d like to post a sneak peek on a topic which is expiring me more and more: burlesque wedding dresses! I’ve already showed some nice pictures of a burlesque bridal gown a while ago.  But today I want to show you something really cool…have a look!

These gorgeous corsets are made by Caffeine Moda, a small atelier in Italy. I talked to Simona, who works there, and she explained me they started a few years ago producing hand-made bridal gowns and now they have just launched this new collection inspired to burlesque divas like Roxy Rose (in the pictures) and Dita Von Teese.

What about the red and black polka dot corset below? Love it!

For something completely different I would go for a bright green with beads and feathers…

I wanted to posted more on the topic but didn’t have much time…sorry! Keep tuned because I’ve interviewed a burlesque hat maker and I just need to put all bits together…
Good night and have a lovely week end!

Valentine’s day at Bingo

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Hello girls!

I have to admit I’m not that fun of Valentine’s Day. Actually, I prefer to celebrate this day with something romantic but unusual…so no table for two with candels for me please…better a night out at bingo? Well…not my type of thing, but I found this bingo themed engagement shot simply marvellous!
I love the little details Cinzia took in this engagement photo shot (we love her photos!)…the bingo tables with the couple’s names and wedding date, the little Italian coffe cups and the black board…

Lost in Venice

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

When I was living in Italy I really liked going to Venice and getting lost around its little calles and old building which really look all the same. I usually had no destination, the pleasure was to take a new road and let it bring me somewhere I had never been before, better if in company of a good friend…

Yesterday, when I saw this video on some friends’ facebook page, I felt to be there in Venice…
Have a look at it and I hope you can have a feeling of Venice’s magic spirit!

Would Shakespeare have choosen a theatre?

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Good morning ladies,

I’ve got a funny question for you today…
Have you ever dreamt of having your wedding celebrated in a pretty uncommon place such as a theatre?
Now you can get married at the world’s smallest theatre, the Teatro della Concordia in Umbria region,  or you can choose among more famous ones such as La Fenice in Venice or the oldest theatre in Europe which is the Real Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
These historical and magical places have recently started to be used for private private events including weddings! The choice of such a location must not be limited by a tight budget though…

Laura and Ferdinando recently tied the knot at San Carlo theatre – their VIP wedding was organized by Cira Lombardo wedding planner…have a look at their fab pictures!

These ones below are a few details of the Fenice Theatre in Venice, where I would set up a glamour ’30s style wedding with a masquerade ball to follow!

One year ago

One year ago.
A crazy week-end in London, a crazy idea in mind…
What about Italian girls who write about Italian weddings? That’s why we have staterd “My Italian Wedding”…

Things to remember:

a few nights without sleep to learn how to use wordpress
a lot of venues visited to have something to write about
a few wedding shows we went in Italy and UK
the people we met and helped, the friends we made

It has been a really crazy and busy year! But it was worth it!
Happy birthday to us and thank you all for your support – a special thank to our two halves who never say a word about the fact our conversations have been wedding focused! Sorry, we know you will always love us!!!

Thank you!

Skeletons in the closet

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

I shouldn’t have done that.
I should not have opened the wardrobe and thought it was about the right time to give it a clean up. It’s still winter and that’s usually a spring-kind-of-thing, isn’t it?
I should have respected the good old traditions my mum taught me when I was a little girl.

But I didn’t.
Not only did I want to get rid of old stuff piled up at the bottom of my wardrobe, but I also engaged myself in a charity campaign to save my (too) small  dresses! That was quite difficult since I couldn’t fit into most of my favourites.

That’s the one I was almost crying for…

I took this pic at my mum’s shop, after she made it for my friend Consu’s wedding, where I was the bridesmaid. No way I can zip it up anymore!

Blue dress wedding in Italy
I still remember (it was only a couple of years ago, argh!!) when I chose the style of my dress – I wanted a knee-lenght dress, very simple, with something elegant and sophisticate.
So I went for a shantug silk decorated with embroidered drawings and paillette.
I love it and that blue colour perfectly matches with my dark skin!

Anyway, there wasn’t much to do (a diet maybe?), so I put it back in the wardrobe and without any sense of guilt I went to cook the dinner: cheese lasagne!
