From An Old Trunk…

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Have you ever had one of those afternoons where you have been rummaging in one of your granny’s old trunks looking for some old vintage memorabilia?

I did it so many times, but I’ve never been so lucky as Guido Taroni.

One day, he found an old trunk which belonged to his grand grandmother, the noble Carla Erba Visconti di Modrone, and inside it…guess what…an entire collection of fabulous dresses…

Can you believe they are all dresses back to the beginning of last century? I loved this story and I was so impressed by the pictures…they look so contemporary…

They are all unique pieces designed and made by prestigious fashion brands at those times, such as the Sartoria Ventura founded in 1815 which was the official supplier of the Italian royal family; other dresses where signed by the well-known atelier H.Haardt et Fils whose clients belonged to the rich middle class of the Milan area.

I would not know which of these dresses to choose – they would all look fantastic and unusual as a wedding dress.

What I like most are the clean lines which are gently enriched by light materials like organza, crèpe satin, crèpe georgette and chiffon, all enlighted by crystals and beads. I simply adore the gold and silver decorations as well as the laces.

Thanks to Guido Taroni, who by the way is also a great photographer, for sharing with us these fabulous findings from his anchestor!

Penelope Cruz in red for Campari

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

Have you ever tried Campari?
If you go to Italy this is a must-have beverage (together with Aperol) which we use to make cocktails and which gives cocktails the easily recognisable red Campari colour…you can have an Orange Campari (which is with orange juice…obviously!), an Americano (with Vermouth), a Negroni (with gin and Vermouth) or even a Negroni sbagliato (translated as “wrong Negroni”, which has a drop of pinot Chardonnay)…

A few days ago I found out Campari hired the famous actress Penelope Cruz to be their testimonial in the 2013 calendar. The Italian newspaper La Repubblica also published some backstage pictures of the shooting day with the photographer Kristian Schuller, where you can see some of the fabulous dresses she had to wear…guess the colour?!

Wearing contact lenses on your wedding day

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Hi ladies,

Do you wear glasses or lenses? And more important, what would you wear on your wedding day?
If you have never worn contact lenses, but you would like to try them on your big day, here below you can find some simple guidelines.

wearing glasses on your wedding
{ Tealily Photography }

  • The first thing to do would be to contact your local GP who will give you a prescription will the details of the contact lenses you need
  • These details will allow the optician to give you the right lenses; he/she will also show you how to apply and use them. Some of the most popular lenses in UK and US are made by Acuvue
  • It may take a while for your eyes to get used to the lenses, so it would be better to try them a couple of weeks before your wedding

On the day it’s very important to follow these instructions:

  • It’s better to wear the lenses before applying the make-up; this will avoid the make-up to be caught between the eye and the lens.
  • Keep you eyes closed when applying eye shadow
  • Avoid powders if possible

For the most alternative ones, another choice is to go for coloured contact lenses! Whether you need sight correction or not, they can enhance your natural colour or completely change it.
